Music lovers: Jaclyn shaking hands with her fans while singing ‘You are the Music in Me’ with Vince at the mall in Penang yesterday.

PENANG: Dynamic duo, Jaclyn Victor and Vince Chong, gave an explosive performance with the English and Malay versions of High School Musical 2’s main song You are the Music in Me at Queensbay Mall here.

Their one-hour performance attracted hundreds of people yesterday.

Fans of the singers and the Disney movie, young and old, sang their hearts out with Jac and Vince who also came down from the stage to shake their hands.


In an interview earlier, Jac, who is the first Malaysian Idol, said she was glad to do the duet with Vince with whom she had been friends for a long time.

“I’m especially happy to sing the soundtrack of a movie that embodies believing in yourself and following your dreams. These are familiar themes in my life and career,” she said.

She added that it took them two days to shoot the music video for the Malay version of the movie in Putrajaya recently.

Recalling a funny incident during the shooting, Akademi Fantasia season one winner Vince said the camera’s wheel began rolling down a slope and they had to chase after it.

When asked by a young member of the audience if he was “taken,” Vince laughed and replied: “I’m married to my career. So, I’m not taken.”

He described the movie as “awesome” and was especially impressed with its director Kenny Ortega who was also the choreographer.

High School Musical 2 has attracted over 17 million viewers and is the most-watched cable telecast of all time.

In Malaysia, the sequel took the number one spot in the ratings among Astro viewers aged between six and 14.
