A cut above the rest

THEY were in a class of their own as they showed their
agility and creative dance moves.

At the recent High School Musical 2 Dance Competition
final orga-nised by Queensbay Mall, the six teenagers
proved that those who attended dancing classes get
rewarded.

Justin Lim, 15, Zachary Khoo, 16, Zara Kim Khoo, 14,
Tifanny Loh, 16, Luvenia Kalia, 13, and Avienne Low, 14,
danced stylishly and quickly won the judges’ hearts to
emerge number one in the competition.

They had everything necessary to win – good showmanship,
team-work and a variety of creative dance moves throughout
their entire performance.

But what truly shone through each of them were their
confidence and passion for dancing.

Zara Kim Khoo revealed after the competition that she and her team members were students at the Green Apple Ballet Academy and that it was their first competition together.

“The routine was originally used for our dance exams. But it was modified for the competition and made more difficult to perform.

“We took about a week to train and prepare but we were confident that we would perform our best here,” she said.

They won RM2,000 worth of Queensbay Mall shopping vouchers and each member also took home a mobile phone sponsored by Cel-com.

Another group of energetic teens, My Dance Station, won second place, taking home Queensbay Mall shopping vouchers worth RM1,500.

The group’s eight dancing girls with their funky outfit and hairdo commanded the stage just as well and being the final group to perform, they gave the show an interesting finish.

In third place were eight kinder-garten kids with orange-coloured pom-poms, who just knew how to have fun on stage.

The ‘not quite high school’ dancers did not have a name for their group but they did not need to do much to make the judges and the audience remember them.

Looking very cute in cheerleader and bas-ketball player outfits, the youngest contestants just shook their pom-poms to win the hearts of the audience.

Their dance moves might have not been very synchronised but the smiling and cheering crowd quickly pardoned every mistake.

They won RM1,000 worth of Queensbay Mall shopping vouchers. Meanwhile, the remaining five teams took home one Disney hamper each.
